Apple School Manager
What is it?
Apple School Manager (ASM) is a device management solution for school owned iPads, MacOS and Apple TVs devices. ASM connects with Microsoft Intune to automatically enrol devices, and push out applications and configuration profiles.
How does it work?
School owned devices purchased through preferred suppliers (CompNow and ASI) will be automatically enrolled into ASM. This allows devices to be quickly enrolled after being erased, as the configuration profile is applied during the device setup. See document Apple iOS iPad Registration Guide - School owned for instructions on how to enrol these devices.
Please note that not all school owned devices will be in ASM. These devices will need to be added into ASM manually. There are two ways to add devices into ASM, either by attaining purchase orders and forwarding them on to CSPD via a ServiceNow ticket or through Apple Configurator. See document Apple School Manager Registration Guide (Trainee) for instructions on how to manually add devices into ASM.

Application Purchasing
What is it?
Apple iOS apps are popular among schools to use as a learning tool in the classroom. One of the key challenges of app deployment is that the school must legally own at least as many licenses as it has deployed to devices (as opposed to purchasing an app once and deploying it many times). It is currently not possible to purchase multiple licenses for an app from the normal App Store. Apple School Manager is the primary method for purchasing free and paid applications for Apple Devices.
How does it work?
See the document Apple School Manager Application Purchasing for comprehensive instructions on purchasing app licenses through Apple School Manager.
What if it doesn't work?
Any issues experienced relating to ASM purchases should be directed to the ICT Service Desk.
